Causes and risk factors vary depending on the type of diabetes. Most of the time, genes and lifestyle are among the main causes of Type 1 and 2 diabetes. As for gestational, causes are usually the change in hormones, and those at risk are those who gain too much weight during pregnancy.
If left unmanaged, diabetes can lead to multiple complications. To manage, patients may either take insulin/medication alongside proper diet and exercise.
