How Trina Bolfing, a new marriage and family therapist, launched her practice without the software stress

Overview

When Trina Bolfing launched Trina Bolfing Relational & Mental Health, she needed a platform that could handle her practice without handling her budget. After nearly going with a more expensive option, and spending time piecing together separate tools, she found Carepatron and felt the weight lift. Starting with the right system already in place meant less overwhelm and a workflow that got out of the way so she could focus on her clients.

Meet Trina Bolfing

Trina Bolfing, MA, LMFT Associate, LPC Associate, NCC, is a marriage and family therapist running a solo private practice in the United States, supervised by Michelle Silva Segura, LMFT-S, LPC-S, SEP. She works with individuals, couples, and groups. Before launching her own practice she used an EHR through her group practice that she found clunky and unintuitive. When it came time to set up on her own she almost committed to a well-known platform, then did the math on what the add-ons would cost. She went looking for something better and found Carepatron.

The first change was the budget.

Setting up a private practice from scratch meant making a lot of decisions at once. Trina had started building out her intake documents in one platform before doing the math on what she’d actually need. The features she relied on were add-ons, and the monthly cost was climbing toward something she describes as outrageous for a solo practitioner. ### “I’d started trying to find different platforms for each of the features I needed, but that approach didn’t feel like it was saving me enough to justify the level of complication I would have to live with.” Carepatron became the operational core of her practice from day one. Scheduling, notes, and client management all live in one place, and the Google Calendar sync means she can see conflicts and block time without flipping between tabs. The customization has been particularly valuable for her couples and group work. The way she’s set up notes for those session types saves her around 30 minutes a week, small individually but meaningful across a full caseload.

The bigger change was the calm.

The moment that made the biggest impression came during a notes request from the parent of a minor client. Notes requests are stressful at the best of times. In her previous system, records were scattered across at least three different places, and retrieval was a mess. In Carepatron, downloading everything she needed was fast, organized, and calm. ### “Dealing with a notes request was incredibly stressful, and it was such a relief that downloading the notes was so chill.” Trina isn’t measuring Carepatron’s impact in client growth. That was never the point. What it gave her was something harder to quantify but just as important: the feeling that her systems are working for her, not against her. ### “I don’t feel like I’m fighting with it to get it to do what I want.” For a new practice owner building her own way, that sense of control matters. Starting with the right foundation meant she could focus on the clinical work from the beginning, confident the admin was handled.
