Are you currently with TheraNest and looking for an alternative?

That's okay. You're not alone.

We understand their billing portal and customer service facilities are disappointing, to say the least.

That's why we've created this handy article to help you decide which of the top practice management alternatives is best for your practice.

For comparison's sake, we'll give you a brief outline of TheraNest.

TheraNest is a web-based solution for psychology and Mental Health practitioners that set out to help with note management, billing, and scheduling. They claim to offer many different capabilities that include the ability to analyze client distribution across age, gender, marital status, and more and allow practitioners to keep track of progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries. TheraNest also has that all-important HIPAA-compliant sticker which is a must-have for any healthcare management system

Unfortunately, the holes start to appear when looking at the billing and invoicing booking portal, and customer service.

TheraNest issues and pricing

While TheraNest claims to have the ability to schedule recurring appointments, there are many issues around specific start times and the ability to customize appointment lengths or the number of follow-up sessions that will be required.

Unfortunately, the issues extend to billing and customer service. Some practitioners are waiting many weeks for a response from TheraNest's customer support team. Especially problematic when practitioners are experiencing issues that impact the functionality of their practice daily.

TheraNest's pricing plan is based on the number of clients on your caseload. For comparison's sake, we've included it here;

  • $39 monthly for under 30 clients
  • $50 monthly for under 50 clients
  • $108 monthly for under 100 clients

In addition to this, TheraNest's additional features come at an added cost:

  • Wiley Planners for $25 per month for each practitioner
  • Client portal for $6 per month for each practitioner
  • Telehealth for $10 per month for each practitioner
  • Electronic claims: $0.23 each
  • Text reminders are $0.02, and voice reminders are $0.05
  • Credit card processing: 2.85% + 27¢ per transaction

With TheraNest, something to consider is having to worry about paying for confusing add-ons such as SMS or messaging or getting an unpleasant surprise when your caseload increases, so again, we can see why you'd consider something else!

Here are our recommendations for the best TheraNest alternatives

Carepatron

Our top alternative to TheraNest is Carepatron, we've put it at the top of the list for a number of reasons, but you'll see that soon...

Carepatron was designed by Psychologists, Mental Health Nurses, Counselors, Allied Health, and Social Workers at the forefront of the development process. Carepatron intends to help healthcare practitioners live their best work life. It's designed to work on any device, in any country. This also includes the ability to work with android and IOS apps. Carepatron helps with scheduling client appointments, managing health records, and automating billing and payments functionally and pragmatically that you can understand.

Carepatron's key features

1. HIPAA compliant

As we mentioned before, compliance with regulations regarding your client's privacy and confidentiality is paramount to keeping your practice running. While they aren't the sexiest part of online electronic health records or other practice management software, they are the most important. Carepatron is HIPPA certified, so unlike some other software platforms, you can be sure that they'll keep you and your client's details safe, meaning you won't have to worry about your patient portal staying just that.

2. Telehealth app for free

Carepatron's telehealth app enables practitioners to meet with each other, their clients, and anyone else they feel they might need to have a chat with online. In addition to this, we've found their video calling's quality is better than any others on the market, so you won't have to worry about a session breaking up halfway through.

3. Workflow Scheduling manager

You would hope that all the practice management platforms on the market today have essential scheduling tools. We've found that Carepatron offers more. The tool they have is an end-to-end workflow tool, which utilizes the best and newest technology to automate and streamline the work you're doing.

Here are some of Carepatron's powerful workflow tools:

  • Client appointment organizer
  • The ability to share and manage tasks
  • Auto Reminders
  • A Patient Portal
  • Team Meeting Capabilities

4. AI-Powered Voice to text transcription

This is a big winner for us and was one of the significant reasons Carepatron ranks so highly on our list. Carepatron understands that as a practitioner, time is scarce. Therefore, you need to be able to take down notes in a concise way that doesn't negatively impact your workflow. Voice-to-text transcription does just that, and better yet, it's not your stock standard transcription. It's AI-Powered!

4. Client relationships

Managing Client relationships is difficult, especially when there is only one of you and 30 people on your caseload. Still, Carepatron enables you to contact directly, manage and allocate within each client's profile. You are making everything more efficient for both parties!

Here are some other excellent Carepatron capabilities:

  • Note and clinical report software
  • Fully functional free version available
  • Unlimited 24/7 support
  • Intuitive, user-friendly interface
  • Client relationship capability

In addition to all of these great tools for your therapy notes and electronic medical records, Carepatron's pricing plan is not only easy to understand, but it's also free...

Practice management software

SimplePractice

The next alternative we have to offer you is SimplePractice.

SimplePractice is an online practice management software that is designed specifically for behavioral health clinicians. It offers note templates, EMR, insurance claim filing capabilities, and online billing, booking, and appointment reminders.

However, client reviews SimplePractice state that the patient portal and mobile app can be confusing to navigate. Not being able to speak to any customer service providers over the phone can also be incredibly frustrating. In addition to this, the billing software is archaic compared to other platforms' capabilities, with limited customization within the appointment scheduling and medical billing tools.

SimplePractice offers a starter pack at $35 per month per user.

TherapyNotes

TherapyNotes are a practice management solution for behavioral health and medical practices. They offer a range of features that include the standard client/patient portal, appointment scheduling, management notes, and patient records management. In addition to this, TherapyNotes can help practices that work in telemedicine and clinicians who need access to records outside of their home office, similar to our other top alternatives!

While TherapyNotes helps with charting and case management, they have a few drawbacks that make healthcare providers question the software's ease of use. It is not intuitive and requires far too many clicks for the actions you are trying to achieve. In addition to this, it does not autosave the documents, so unlike Carepatron, there's a real risk of losing valuable work. Payment processing is also costly and confusing, which is a major drawback for patient engagement and revenue boosters for private practices.

As stated in one user review, TherapyNotes are just a cheaper version of SimplePractice. After reviewing their management tool, we have to agree. Their plans start at $25 per month.

In terms of SAAS software solutions, TherapyNotes is good... but they aren't great.

CounSol

CounSol is another online practice management system on the market. Designed for counselors and therapists, it aims to improve the management of clients both on and offline. CounSol offers secure chatting and video sessions, stock standard progress notes, billing and invoicing, and a space to store treatment plans.

CounSol has some issues that are yet to be ironed out. We'll list them here to save you from experiencing these pesky issues yourself. To start with, the intake measures aren't automatically pulled into the initial intake note. This means you'll have to repeatedly input demographics when onboarding any new client. While they do offer an integrated messaging/email capability, you won't send attachments to any client in particular. If we think about it, that'll be the majority of the emails that do go back and forth, meaning you'll need to outsource your emailing... like we said, pesky... Also, the billing page is very confusing. We would go so far as to say it's overwhelming.

For $44.95 a month, you'll get a lot of different functions, but quantity, in this case, doesn't mean quality... it's one size fits all in this case, and you'll find you're paying a lot for features that you don't want or need.

Power Diary

Finally, let’s take a look at Power Diary. Power Diary has developed functional practice management software that can be utilized by a range of different healthcare practitioners.

Power Diary is integrated with appointment scheduling, appointment reminders, telehealth features, invoicing and billing assistance, and health records. These tools have been shown to elevate the productivity and organization of health practices, while simultaneously saving time. The software has a starting cost of $40/month, with increases depending on users.

Despite the positive aspects of Power Diary, there are certain things to be wary of. The user interface isn’t overly intuitive, which can make navigation tricky and decrease efficiency. Also, although the platform offers a free trial, the 14-day period is fairly limited when it comes to acquainting yourself (and your staff) to an entirely new system.

Work From your Couch with Better Practice Management Software

We've shown you the best Healthcare tools for solo practitioners, practice teams, and large healthcare companies. There are some software products out there that offer alternatives to TheraNest. Still, when it comes to remote access from iPhone or android, online EHR, and other vital features that you might be looking for in any practice management system.

With no installation, onboarding expenses, or hardware support, they let you work with the best healthcare practitioners worldwide. And they can automate most of your operational or admin work too.

And if that doesn't change the complete deal, we don't know what will!

Remember, the secret sauce for private practice success is to find a practice management app that brings client records, scheduling, online booking, billings, payments, etc., in your pocket.

But most importantly, a complete practice management system helps you keep on top of everything, ensuring you have time for what is really important— SOAP Notes, Appointment Scheduling, Private Practice App.

Don't delay! Join Carepatron to build a successful practice right from your couch.
