F33.1 — Schwere depressive Störung, rezidivierend, moderat

Recurrent severe major depressive disorder (F33.2 or F33.3) involves repeated episodes of severe depression, either severe without psychotic features (F33.2) or severe with psychotic features (F33.3). This differs from F33.1, which represents moderate severity recurrent episodes.

Moderate depression (F33.1) involves noticeable impairment in functioning with several symptoms, while severe depression involves marked impairment with most symptoms present. Severe with psychotic features includes hallucinations or delusions, while severe without psychotic features does not include psychotic symptoms.

F33 alone is not specific enough for billing. Valid codes include F33.1 (major depressive disorder recurrent moderate), F33.0 (mild), F33.2 (severe without psychotic), F33.3 (severe with psychotic), and F33.9 (unspecified major depressive disorder recurrent). Each represents different severity levels of major depression recurrent presentations.
